Route: Sibiu → Cisnădie → Cisnădioara → Rășinari → Poplaca → Gura Râului → Rășinari → Sibiu

Day Itinerary

Starting Point: Sibiu 10:00 from Justitiei, 6

 Stop 1 – Departure from Sibiu & Ride to Cisnădie : we start the tour directly from Sibiu, cycling through the peaceful outskirts of the city toward Cisnădie, a charming Saxon town.

• Highlights: Traditional Saxon houses, historical streets, and scenic orchards along the route.
• Local Culture: Cisnădie has a rich heritage as a former textile production center and preserves Saxon traditions in festivals and architecture.
• Photo Opportunities: Picturesque rural landscapes, old stone houses, and surrounding orchards.

Stop 2 – Cisnădioara (Michelsberg) – Fortified Church: cycle a short distance to Cisnădioara, a hilltop village known for its iconic fortified church.

• Fortified Church (13th century): One of the oldest Romanesque churches in Transylvania, fortified to protect villagers during medieval times.
• Panoramic Views: Stunning views over the surrounding countryside and orchards.
• Village Atmosphere: Quiet cobblestone streets, traditional Saxon houses, and local gardens.
• History & Culture: Learn about the Saxon community that has lived here for centuries and their architectural legacy.
• Activities: Explore the church, take photos of the hilltop scenery, and enjoy a short break.

Stop 3: Rășinari - Traditional Saxon Village Charm: continue cycling to Rășinari, a culturally significant Romanian village at the edge of the Cindrel Mountains.

• Pastoral Life: The village maintains traditional sheep herding practices and rural lifestyles.
• Architecture: Traditional wooden gates and houses with carved decorations.
• Cultural Heritage: Birthplace of Emil Cioran, the famous philosopher, and Octavian Goga, the poet and politician.
• Local Experience: Opportunity to meet locals, see small farmsteads, and observe daily village life.
• Scenery: Rolling hills, fields, and pastures, ideal for photography and nature appreciation.

Stop 4 – Poplaca & Gura Râului: cycle through Poplaca and Gura Râului, two traditional shepherd villages at the foot of the Cindrel Mountains.

• Enjoy scenic pastures, mountain views, and quiet rural landscapes.
• See authentic village life, old farmhouses, and colorful gardens.
• Short stop for photos, a snack, or to explore the surroundings.

5. Return to Sibiu via Rășinari:In the late afternoon, cycle back to Sibiu through Rășinari, along peaceful country roads.Ride through rolling hills, meadows, and forests.

       The road from Rășinari to Sibiu is paved and mostly downhill or flat pass through the scenic Dumbrava Forest, making it an enjoyable and relatively easy ride, by bike is approximately 12 km around 40-60 minutes, depending on your pace and stops.
