Day Itinerary

1. Starting Point: Sibiu 10:00 from Justitiei, 6 heading west toward Păltiniș (approx. 30 km, uphill), Romania's oldest and highest mountain resort.

Stop 1: Păltiniș

        Păltiniș, located in the Cindrel Mountains of Romania, is a popular mountain resort with several attractions that draw visitors year-round.

Main Attraction:

  • Schitul Păltiniș Monastery:a small, serene Orthodox monastery established in 1925. It’s the burial site of Romanian philosopher Constantin Noica, making it a spiritual and intellectual landmark.
  • Panoramic Views: Păltiniș is the highest mountain resort in Romania (1,440 meters altitude), offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
  • Fresh Mountain Air and Relaxation: known for its health benefits, the resort is a great place to rejuvenate in nature’s tranquility.


Stop 2: Poiana Lupilor - Scenic Natural Beauty and Wildlife

       Poiana Lupilor ("The Wolves' Glade") is renowned for its untouched natural environment, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Located near Păltiniș in the Cindrel Mountains, this tranquil meadow offers breathtaking views and a serene escape from urban life.

Main Attractions:

  • Breathtaking Mountain Views:the meadow is surrounded by lush forests and rolling hills, providing a picturesque backdrop ideal for photography and relaxation
  • Wildlife Observation : The area is home to diverse wildlife, including deer, foxes, and various bird species. While wolves are rarely seen, the glade's name evokes the mystique of the Carpathian wilderness.

Stop 3: Rășinari - Traditional Saxon Village Charm

      Rășinari, one of the oldest and most picturesque villages in Transylvania, is known for its rich cultural heritage, traditional architecture, and beautiful surroundings. It is a gateway to the Cindrel Mountains and a significant cultural and historical site.

Main Attraction:

  • Orthodox Church of Saint Parascheva:this 18th-century church is famous for its stunning frescoes and traditional Romanian Orthodox architecture
  • Octavian Goga Memorial House: dedicated to the Romanian poet and politician Octavian Goga, this museum showcases his life, work, and the traditional lifestyle of the village

 5. Return to Sibiu

       The road from Rășinari to Sibiu is paved and mostly downhill or flat pass through the scenic Dumbrava Forest, making it an enjoyable and relatively easy ride, by bike is approximately 12 km around 40-60 minutes, depending on your pace and stops.
